About
At the heart of Taipei’s vibrant Xinyi District lies a culinary gem: Kaneko Hannosuke Mitsukoshi Taipei Xinyi A8. Nestled in the SKM building on Songgao Road, this renowned eatery brings a slice of Japan's culinary mastery to Taiwan. Especializing in 江戶前天丼 (Edo-style tempura rice bowls), the menu tantalizes with offerings featuring tender eel, succulent shrimp, and a variety of seafood, each meticulously prepared to deliver a burst of authentic flavors.
Your culinary journey begins with their iconic Special Tendon, a mouthwatering dish that includes crispy fried shrimp, delicate white fish, and a perfectly runny soft-boiled egg, all resting atop a generous serving of rice. The fusion of textures—from the crisp tempura to the smooth egg—creates an experience that is as delightful as it is satisfying. As one customer aptly described, mixing the runny yolk with rice produces a wonderfully creamy texture that elevates the dish even further.
Patrons rave about the generous portion sizes, making it a great value for anyone seeking an unforgettable meal. The restaurant's commitment to authenticity shines through in every dish, resonating with flavors reminiscent of Japan itself. As Kate Shao noted, the food tastes just like it does back in Japan, complemented by complimentary pickles and black bean tea, while others appreciate the speedy service, ensuring quick and efficient dining—even during peak hours.
Though some guests have mentioned that the white rice could use a bit more character, the overall quality of the tempura remains largely unquestioned. Indeed, Alfred Siew remarked on the lovely ambiance and friendly staff, echoing the warm hospitality one might find in a traditional Japanese eatery. For those willing to explore every bite, the occasional critique serves as an invitation for the chefs to refine their craft further.
Conveniently located, Kaneko Hannosuke is easily accessible via MRT, making it a prime spot for both locals and tourists alike. With a relaxed yet refined atmosphere and the ability to order via a simple QR code, dining becomes a seamless experience. And don’t forget the option to refill your rice for free—true to the spirit of generosity that defines much of Japanese cuisine!
In summary, Kaneko Hannosuke Mitsukoshi Taipei Xinyi A8 stands as a must-visit destination for tempura lovers in Taipei, promising a rich, authentic culinary experience that captures the essence of Japanese dining. With reasonable prices and an impressive menu, it’s no wonder that this spot is quickly becoming a favorite among food enthusiasts.
“ Still hits the spot like no other. First time trying out this branch, service was quick and food was as amazing as I remembered. Came during 4pm on a Saturday and didn't need to wait at all. ”
“ Tempura was pretty delicious! Food exactly taste the same as Japan. Big portion of the rice. Pickles and black bean tea were free. Luckily we just waited about 10min on weekends. ”
“ Pleasantly surprised by this tempura shop in the food court. We ordered a bowl of shrimp tempura with eel and another with fish. Both were very good. Each bowl included a half-cooked egg, which was excellent. The only complaint is that the white rice didn’t match up to the standard of the tempura, lacking the flavorful rice smell. The shrimp could be a little bigger. Apart from that, very well done. ”
“ Tempura looks nice but is a little oily and the prawn could have been a bit fresher. Noodles also could be more springy though the broth is decent. Really friendly staff like you'd find in this lovely city. Wish the food can be improved a little. It's okay but can be improved. ”
“ Special Tendon (Tempura Rice Bowl) ($419): There are fried shrimps, white fish, sea sedge, and a soft boiled egg. This has been my top choice and my favourite part is when the rice and the runny eggs are mixed together and that creates an amazing and gluey texture. Moreover, I paid an extra $99 to make it a set meal with 2 extra things (6 choose 2). 6 choose 2: Light grapefruit flavoured sparkling drink: It tastes quite tangy, slightly sour and syrupy. Grapefruit Ice Cream (soft serve): It’s placed in a cone and has a tarted and sweet flavour. When it comes to the location, it’s situated on the B2F inside SKM building A8. It’s the most economical way that you take the MRT to Taipei City Hall and walk for a few minutes to get here. In conclusion, definitely the place where you can enjoy the most authentic tempura rice bowl at mid-range prices. I’ve been to the branch at Taipei Main Station several times and the Special Tendon has become one of my favourite dishes ever. Overall, it’s a 10 out of 10! FYI, you scan the QR code to order and 10% service charge is included in your bill. The black bean tea is complimentary and you can refill rice for free. ”
“ A little more care and understanding mean so much to customer We wish to thank the serving staff in charge for a wonderful dining experience here on Christmas eve 3pm It was long Q and we have 2 adults and 3 young kids. The gentleman took extra effort to go through our meal orders. He forewarned us about long wait for a table of 5 as seating is limited. He managed to arrange a corner table for us anyhow. We enjoyed the cripsy and yummy fried fishes, squid and especially prawns. A must try. ”
“ The waitress was very friendly and tentative , when we didn’t realize we can order with the QR code, she immediately offered to order for us, also offer a better deal set rather than our original order ! We do receive a cone as a gift ! ”
